Simonds Stadium stage 3 success

 

Not only did Cats fans get to see their beloved team beat the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday night, they also got to experience the new and improved facilities at Simonds Stadium, with the completion of the $50m stage 3 redevelopment.

The stage 3 redevelopment includes the new players stand that seats 9,336, increasing the stadium’s capacity to 33,500, as well as the Deakin CATS Community Centre which shall become the focal point of the Club’s extensive community programs.

Adding to the excitement on Saturday night, was the debut of the stadium’s new 1400 lux broadcast quality lights, and 120m2 videoboard. All projects being completed simultaneously as part of Stage 3.

Cats Chief Executive Brian Cook said the night was a proud moment for all after more than eight years’ hard work and vision. “The whole place was abuzz and it was quite obvious the economy was buzzing too, it was a great night for Geelong,” he said.

It was also a very proud moment for Waypoint’s Managing Director Chris Dare who has worked alongside Mr Cook and the Geelong Football Club on every stage of the project to date covering some 12 years.  Waypoint are excited to be retained by the club to now undertake Stage 4 of the redevelopment master plan, to further enhance Simonds Stadium’s reputation as a high quality venue for elite sports and major events.
